NEWS ROUNDUP Ver. 15

NEWS ROUNDUP Ver. 15

PROMETHEUS

In a no brainer by the studios, a sequel to Prometheus has been green lit officially. Director Ridley Scott hasn't said very much yet on his plans for it, but expect it to be out around 2014-2015 at the earliest.

THE SHINING

For my friends in Britain, they are going to be getting a special treat for Halloween. The U.S. cut of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining will play in theaters over seas for the first time. A brand new trailer should be playing any day now for the film.

THE WALKING DEAD

For it's upcoming season 3 premiere, AMC has released a new promo image that shows some new and some older characters. Also, while talking about The Walking Dead, creator Robert Kirkman let slip that Rick actually might keep both his hands after all unlike in the comic.

DOOMSDAY BOOK

The South Korean film Doomsday Book has won the Cheval Noir Award at the Fantasia International Film Festival this year. Doomsday Book is an anthology movie, split into 3 different chapters. The first Chapter, entitled Heaven's Creation, is about a robot who comes alive and follows what happens afterward. The second Chapter, entitled The New Generation, is a story from the point of view of a boy who is now a zombie. The third Chapter, entitled Happy Birthday, re-interprets "The Christmas Gift" by O Henry.

AVENGERS 2

It looks like Joss Whedon will be back in the director's chair for the sequel to the blockbuster film Avengers. On top of this, it seems as if Whedon will also participate in the development of ABC's live-action Marvel Universe series. It will be nice to see Whedon working back on TV again, now if only we can see something in the Firefly universe again.

NEWS ROUNDUP VER. 10

NEWS ROUNDUP VER. 10

PROMETHEUS
With the film being out just over a week, it is still dividing fans. With news that the blu-ray release will have an extended cut of the film that adds over twenty minutes to the film on top of cut scenes as a special feature coming out in October, it should be interesting to see if the divide will grow. That's on top of something dealing with the something happening two days after the movie is released online. Also we have interesting final words from Ridley Scott from Prometheus: The Art of the Film book: "I thought Prometheus was so enjoyable - returning to the world of science fiction was so - I'm thinking about what the hell I night do for a Prometheus 2....."

V/H/S
Another anthology film is coming soon with a interesting premise. The story is a group of robbers are hired to find and steal a rare found footage tape. Yet what they find is more than they expected as the crooks have to go through hundreds of old VHS tapes to each one weirder and more horrifying than the last to find the right one. The poster above was just released and it does catch the eye.

THE WALKING DEAD
With the premiere of The Walking Dead season 3 coming up in October, new stills have been comingout from the set. With the word that The Governor is almost the same on screen as he is in the comic and the main set piece being the prison expect Rick and the survivors to have a even worse time than in the season two.

WORLD WAR Z
For the last two news updates I've done, this movie has been mentioned. Now it looks like the reasoning behind the break down of the film is coming to light from crew members that worked on the set. The two main reasons they listed were a rush to go into production while nothing was really set and the break down of leadership on the set due to the director being out of his depth. With crew members replaced during production and cast members working on other productions how this film has a supposed great first hour I have no idea.

GHOSTBUSTERS 3
It looks like Bill Murray hasn't quite giving up on the sequel yet as he is asking for another script for the film. I have to hand to Murray to stand his ground for the sequel to have a decent script and for it to mean something other than a paycheck. Hats off to you Mr. Murray!

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES
In other good news, the Michael Bay produced reboot of the classic franchise is now on indefinite hold. Let's hope it stays that way.

JAPAN CUTS 2012

The New York city held Asian film festival that runs from July 12th to the 28th has it's line up in place and it look like it's going to be amazing. The link below is to the official website.

NEWS ROUNDUP Ver. 7

NEWS ROUNDUP Ver. 7

BLADE RUNNER

In an interview with The Independent, director Ridley Scott said  “I don’t think it’ll be Harry [starring in the film]…But I’ve got to have him in it somewhere. That’d be amusing.”  It's nice to see that Scott's work on Blade Runner is finally getting the respect it deserves finally, as well as Scott trying to get as much of the original staff back for the sequel.

RANDOLPH CARTER

Charles Cutting has posted a link to his comic The Dream Quest Of Randolph Carter to be read for free. To read it just click the link below. While the work isn't based on any one story by H.P. Lovecraft it does draw inspiration from his works.

THE WORLD'S END

Details are coming out about the next Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost collaboration. The film is about five friends who decide to try to do a epic pub crawl to a bar called World's End. But what seems like a trip down memory lane turns more into the fight for the future of mankind. It's Wright and Pegg and Frost. What more needs to be said!

CLARICE

Now for something that leaves me scratching my head, Lifetime network is making a Clarice Starling series based off of Thomas Harris's FBI agent of which Jodie Foster won an Academy Award for playing in the film Silence Of The Lambs. Wonder if it's going to be coming on the same nights as the Hannibal series is?

THE WALKING DEAD

The first official picture of Michonne, played by Danai Gurira, is finally up and I must say she looks like she'll do just fine in the sword wielders role as you can see from the photo above.

NEWS ROUNDUP Ver.5

NEWS ROUNDUP Ver.5

THE WALKING DEAD:

Not a lot has been mentioned by me about The Walking Dead, that's partly due to I don't want to spoil too much for myself. Another reason is because the production does a decent job of keeping things tight on the set. Well this popped up on-line recently about two new characters that will be in season three of the show. The first is Manuel, a Hispanic who shows tendencies to be a good leader plus has a sense of humor. The second is Harold, a stoic male who's trying to create a place for himself in the zombie infested world. Hm. Wonder which of the two are going to be killed off the quickest. With The Governor being in this upcoming season I'm pretty sure a quarter of the cast won't see season four.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY:

Well the basis for season two has been released and this season is placed in an institution ran by Jessica Lange's character. The cast is pretty much in place and includes James Cromwell, Jessica Lange, Chloe Sevigny, Evan Peters, and Zachary Quinto among others.

FINAL GIRL:

Abigail Breslin has landed the lead role in Tyler Shields movie about a pack of feral boys who pick the wrong female for their next initiation.

LOBO:

In a bit of an oddity yet one that I would watch with ease if it turns out to be more than a rumor. Supposedly one of the DC comic properties that might be made into a film is the story of a intergalactic bounty hunter with a really bad attitude and that takes shit from no one, not even Santa Claus. The role right now seems to might be going to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

PROMETHEUS:

In a bit of genius advertising for a film, the abandoned Saint-Martin subway stop in Paris has been turned into a mini LV-426 for a promotion for the upcoming film. Also the onslaught of 15 and 30 second promos for the film are airing on television with one 30 second spot being very interesting but creepy for a quick shot it shows.

NEWS ROUNDUP Ver 2

BATTLE ANGEL VS. AVATAR
James Cameron has confirmed that Battle Angel Alita is still on his slate of feature films to make. Yet how long this is going to take as Cameron has said that he's only going to concentrate on the Avatar sequels, two confirmed by him with a possible fourth, is anybody's guess when it will get made.

KICK ASS

With Universal Pictures looking for a franchise it looks like a Kick-Ass sequel might just be in the works, minus Mathew Vaughn from the director's chair. If it is green lit, production could start as early as this fall.

THE AVENGERS
Well this is a no shit Sherlock, everyone saw that one coming news. Disney and Marvel are putting The Avengers 2 into pre-production as soon as possible. Though the film wouldn't come out until at least till 2015. This will give time for

The Captain America sequel

Iron Man 3

A third Hulk film

Thor 2

A possible Shield movie

and the wanted by me, Edgar Wright's Irredeemable Ant-Man film to come out.

THE WALKING DEAD

Creator Robert Kirkman talked a little bit about season 3 of the show recently saying that the prison is one of the most amazing set pieces done so far for the series. He also hinted the origin of the sword Michonne carries and uses will be told.

THE DARK TOWER

Ron Howard twitted recently that he was in a story meeting for the much wanted film. Though he did say there is no time table yet for it.

PROMETHEUS

I can't end this without a small but happy Prometheus news tid-bit. The rating for the film is "R". All I can say is thankfully someone got smart in Hollywood and let this one be what it should!
